Guys, there is a lady in my town with two veileds in pretty bad condition and she is trying to sell them on Craigslist for a huge profit. I really want to get them to build them back up and then find good homes for them (free through the forum) but I don't think that she will give them to me. I don't want to pay for them because I don't want to encourage her but I feel horrible.

What would you do in this dilemma? I already sent her an email pointing her very politely to the forum and telling her that her husbandry was wrong and that I was willing to help her out or take the chams off her hands (I did not say I would pay) and get them back up to proper condition. I am afraid of backlash and hatemail (I know this lady from another time- long story you can pm me if interested)

Can anyone help me? Is anyone in the area of Portland or am I alone on this?

I am surprised nobody has flagged her yet!

It would be awesome if you could get them, but from my experience on CL, a lot of people dont care about the animal and just want the $$$$$$$!

sometimes for the wellfare of the animal it may be neccessary to buy them. Atleast it will stop the suffering. I say buy them and inform them how they wasn't keeping them correctly.

I can't buy them. I also sort of refuse to give her money to fix her problem as it would encourage her to continue this sort of thing.

I say get them away from her ......whatever it takes!

Guys, I don't have the cash to do that! How can I convince her that it is the best thing to do? I have a feeling she is all about the cash ($200 for a sick male veiled?)

How can I handle this? I really want to get them and make them healthy again and then put them in knowledgeable homes. :(

While her husbandry isn't perfect, those chameleons don't look sick to me. As much as it annoys you, pass on them.

Have to agree with Trace.
The chameleons actually look fine .... despite the fact that I see no UVB light anywhere in the pictures.
Price seems okay to me as well .... a chameleon is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
Interesting that she doesn't know the sex of the smaller animal (pretty easy to figure out).

I got a response asking for help and I am referring her to your site, Brad. I also wrote an immediate action simplified care sheet and told her where she can get inexpensive but correct supplies. I am possibly going to her place in a few days and setting up her enclosures and teaching her first hand how to care for the chams. Any suggestions? I am a good teacher and will take it slow...baby steps, but very important ones.

Thanks for the input, guys. Keep it coming!

It's very nice of you to help.
No suggestions ... I think it sounds like you have all the tools you need.
Good luck, and thanks for helping her out.
Feel free to give her my e-mail address*.

*I think it's on the Kitty site
