Check your local agricultural extension service. They should be able to ID any plant you have. They also have tons of handouts they can give you to help.

I have several books on Native Plant ID and Field Botany that show you exactly how to tell what species of tree you are looking at even when there are no leaves. They are field guides designed to take out into the field for study. I will dig them up and find the titles, then repost them on this thread.
