I just got a new chameleon and I have no idea which type is it, and I also have no idea how to take care of it. What should I feed him? I chopped up a cucumber for him is that right? Should I let him out of the cage frequently? The pictures are in this link http://postimg.org/gallery/7frj82vi/
please help me identify it and I also want to know if it's a male or a female
Thanks

Well... The bad news is it isn't a chameleon. The good news is that it looks like a really pretty iguana. I think you might want to return it and do a TON of research before getting another. I'm not trying to be mean. Chameleons are a bit delicate and require special care compared to other reptiles.

Best of luck.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, that seems to be a green iguana! They have a reputation for being easy reptiles to keep but that's not true at all, they require a lot of space and patience handling, as you don't want an aggressive 5' reptile. A typical aquarium is just not going to cut it to keep this species, you're going to want to look at a large iguana cage.

This seems like a good resource on how to care for them but I've never really kept one (although I have a "pet" iguana living in my dad's Costa Rica office):http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/

They do require a lot of what chameleons require, as in a basking bulb, a UVB bulb, calcium supplements, etc. But they are fully vegetarian, so no crickets or worms for him.
