I'm getting a Tricerous Hoehnelli! It'll be here mid September. To start off with I'm using an 18x18x36 with a mist king mister. So I'm used to Furcifer pardalis but not tricerous hoehnelli. So if anyone has and kind of info for the rest of the setup I would greatly appreciate it

Keep the cage in an area where you can provide a steep night cool down. Preferably temps at night below 60 and day time in the low 70's with a hot spot in the upper 70's. Highest humidity you can achieve at night without things becoming stagnant. Daytime humidity in the 50% range. A good drainage system for lots of misting.

The group I have coming will be outside until daytime highs don't get above 60f-65f.

Do you have any good cham reference books?

I recommend :

Nečas, Petr. Chameleons: Nature's Hidden Jewels. Second Edition

Tilbury, Colin. Chameleons of Africa An Atlas.

Both have good info on Trioceros hoehnelli, I have a number of cham books, most only devote a few pages to each cham, but offer lots of good overall info. The ones I listed are my favorite.

The two books Laurie mentioned are great and have been a big help for all of us.
Another book that came out recently is entirely based on the higher altitude mountains that species like hoehnelii come from. It is called "Mountain Dragons, In search of Chameleons in the Highlands of Kenya" by Jan Stipala. This book in my opinion is the best to date with information and photo's about the locales this species comes from in Kenya. There are a few pages that covers the yellow head form that will be imported.

Keeping them in a basement is a good start. For the montane stuff I keep an air conditioner comes in handy even in the winter month's to keep the room cool at night. The cool temps come into play for the longterm health. They will acclimate a lot quicker if you can provide conditions similar to what they are used to.

In starting out with an 18x18x36 screen cage a mist king mister. I've got a pretty good lost of plants. Which exact low wattage bulb should I use? They eat a little bit differant things than a furcifer paradilIs. I've heard snails is good. What about multiple vitamins, calcium and such, is it the same as a panther.

I would assume [I SAID ASSUME!!] they are on the lighter supplement schedule. Ca w/ D3 & Multivitamins once a month. Ca every couple of feedings, to once a week, depending on who you're asking. Some people don't use supplements at all with their montanes. They concentrate more with gutloads. Wait for a specific reply though. Carl, Mike Fisher, or Nick Barta [resident montane professors] should be able to give you a definitive answer. Even Trace, Motherlode, Kent67, or one of the vets may even chime in on them for you. All six will give you correct solutions. :)

I use calcium at every feeding. My gang gets cal with d3 once a month when inside. I use no other suppliments. Occasionally I will dust insects with bee pollen. I make my own gutload and provide a variety of fresh veggies and fruits for the insects.

Montane chameleons can be difficult in the Texas summer.

I'm accomplishing these lower temperatures for my montane chameleons by having a Montane room separate from my Pardalis room.

In my pardalis room, I keep the air-conditioning vents mostly closed so it stays in the lower 80's. I use a 20 - 40 Watt bulb for basking.
In my montane room... I keep the door close and open up the AC vents. That keeps the room at a max of 75 during the day and a low of 67-68 at night. I also have a ceiling fan that's on high all night. I use a 20-40 Watt heating bulb that comes on in the morning and then off at noon.

I use both a mister (rain dome) and a dripper. The rain dome runs for 90 seconds 5 times a day. I also have dripper that runs for 4 hours twice a day.
My methods are not the best but they seem to work with my Johnstoni and Parsons. I'm planning on keeping my hoes in the same room once they are quarantined.

How does anyone drop the temp so low for night time

ok theres a start I bought an 18x18x36 screen cage, small dripper. UVB 5.0 and a 20watt bulb. I already have a mist king. Do you just use the same plants you were for furcifer paradilas on the hoes
