Overplanting cages??

I always wonder when I see the cages people set up for their chams, do they REALLY need, or want, all the plants?
I have never seen a cham in the wild, so I honestly have no idea what their preferred habitat would be.
But if the design of most cages, the heavy heavy planting, was indeed the habitat they would prefer , it would be akin to living in the thickest blackberry bramble or honeysuckle thicket on earth.
Maybe the pygmies, but do the larger species live in such dense cover??

They may not need as much foliage as we give them but it makes them feel safe, no I personally wouldnt fill the ENTIRE cage packed full with branches but u get the idea I guess lol

You're spot on OP. Many of these species like some open pathways with some hidden areas throughout. Really depends on the species though as some are comfortable in thick cover(montanes in general seem more accustomed to this), while others(like panthers) prefer to be out in the open most of the day with some little spots to escape to.
