i guys this web site is amazing such a fountain of knowledge!
I have a Ambilobe/Nosy Be panther, he's about 5 months old and ive had him about 6 weeks. I handly him every day he seams to really enjoy it hapily sits or walks around on me often would rather stay on me than go back in his vivarium.
He was eating 5-10 4th brown crickest a day normally about 8 with a few more freeroaming about in the viv gutloaded on fruit and vegetable with Repashy superload, the ocational meal worm or wax worm and resently some silkworms maybe 2 a day. Crickets dusted with Repashy calcium plus everyday, I was told this had all he needed in it??
Poo looks good dark brown with white and little clear gloop round it. Never been tested.
exo terra glass terrarium large/x tall 60x45x90cm he also has a ficus in my room he love to sit on particularly when its sunny. But has no heat bulbs on it my room is about 19-23c and is cooler at night.
I have two 0.5 uv bulbs and resently changed from a ceramic heat bulb to a 80w uva uvb Ir basking lamp on all at 9am off at 10pm.
Cloese perch under heat bulb in 30c going to room temp at the bottom drops to 17c at night. Hymidiy is between 60-80 I have a mister going 15m on 15 off through the day and 15m on 45 off at night.
Its a living vivarium with reptile friendly compost that the reptile friendly plants are growning in
the tank is in my bed room by the window the sun just catches one corner of the tank at the moment if it gets to being in the summer in full sun ill close the certens a bit so its in shade and not to hot. I live is surrey England UK.
Im probably worrying about nothing and just wanted to check you guys think its all ok as hes my first reptile though I did and still doing lots of research
He seams very healthy he was eating well until nearly a week ago befor he use to gobble up crickets one sfter another until he was full bout 8 then id leave him to bssk for a bit then hed be out climbing all over me but lately he's been being much more fussy only eating about 2 crickets a day and so I tryed some of the other things I had silkworms might have one? Locusts he wont touch? Mealworms that he only had one or now and then before he wants now but im reluctant to give him too many as I here they are bad for there tummies I tryed some wax worms yeasterday that he ate but today will not?? Very ood he seams to be showing some signs as if he is going to shed but he only shed 19 days ago, opening his mouth puffing up but not angered scrating him tummy with his feet and huffing at me when he dosent like things normally only dose this a couple of times a week if im moving him from tree back to viv or somthin now its twise a day looking a bit drab/ gray and a bit lethargic, befre he was very chilled out nothing seamed to bother him is he just becoming a teenager I saw him humping the tree a few days ago. hoping its just a faze and he'll be back to normal after the shed,
my real concern is I hardly ever see him drinking, he walks about licking things all the time (I hear this is normal for panthers) until it comes to water he doesn't drink when I mist him he dosent drink from wet leaves and dosent even drink in a long warm shower (not sure if he enjoyed it or not just sat there looking about but didnt try to move away from the water or climb on me, then huffed once I terned it off. So I gessing he enjoyed it??) And yet hes showing no signs of dehydration eyes are full and poo is white. So confused! Iwasnt to worried about him until this week with the food thing people say its ok for them to even stop eating as long as they have water but he never drinks. Any advise would be fantastic!
Hes growing about 1cm a week and weighs 36g and is 5inches from nose to start of tail is this a good size weight? How long can he stary at room temperature for hed hapily sis on his tree all day... and night if id let him?
