I have known many people with aviaries outdoors in my area and everyone has had at least one horror story of rats getting in and injuring or killing a bird, mice leaving contamination, and even crows and jays tormenting the animals in the enclosures not to mention the mites and other nasties all these animals carry.
My question is for those of you who keep outdoor enclosures: How do you avoid this issue? I feed some stray cats that hang around my yard and keep the garden free from rodents and birds and I assume they will also protect the chameleons (as long as I make sure the enclosure is cat proof which is easier than rat proof). Are there other precautions that should be taken?
