Our new veiled

Here are some pictures of our new veiled chameleon. His name is Sebastian. The pictures aren't the best quality because he was a little upset we were taking pictures and turned a little brown. There is a pic of his husbandry and a picture of his poop because we heard that if there is some orange in it, he could be dehydrated. Is that true? Also, would anybody be able to help us determine his age? He is about 4 inches from snout to butt. Thanks in advance for any help!

you will find that the hibiscus will not bloom and will eventually die if you dont rotate it with another or keep it outside. they have to have direct sunlight to grow. i would put a pothos ivy or scheffelera (arbracola (sp) ). your little veild looks good. what kind of UVB light are you using ( reptisun 5.0 linier for example ) and are you supplimenting him with anything. he looks like hes maby 4 months.

He is 4-6 months old by size and coloring. He isn't dehydrated too bad with the little bit of orange-just up his mistings a bit.

We are using reptisun 5.0 linier. His crickets get dusted with repti cal calcium 3 times a week and once a week with the repti cal w/D3. The crickets also get dusted once a week with herptivite w/ beta carotene multi vitamins. We gutload the crickets with orange slices, carrots, and flukes calcium gel & calcium cricket feed. His coloring is really pretty and so are his markings but its hard to tell with those pics. We will get better ones up soon! We mist him twice a day for 5 mins each time...is that enough or should we be misting him more since he is a little dehydrated? Thanks!

....another question we had...
we just got the hibiscus today and put it in his cage, is it normal for him to be searching around a lot even to the bottom of the cage?? He has gone down to the bottom 2 or 3 times today but he looks as though he's just searching around and then goes back up to the top. Any ideas?

He looks great guys! Sounds like you guys are doing a great job with him.... Remember at about 6months of age your going to want to back of the multi/d3supplementing to 1-2 a month. If he seems a little dehydrated give him an extra session untill you see his urates are white.. make sure you dripper runs for most of the day and you should be good.. you wont have perfect urates 100% of the time, just make sure that they are white at least 3/4 of the time.. Veileds dont drink that much..remember they also absorb water through thier skin as well..

i cant tell from the pic but i would layer the top of your soil with river rock if you already havent..It prevents him from ingesting any soil.

Thanks Ray. Yeah we put rocks all on the bottom so that he is unable to get to the soil. As far as the suppliments we just wanted to at least give him a little bit extra for now because from what we saw at the petstore there were quite a few discrepancies in their set-up so we don't entirely trust that they were supplimenting his diet as they should have been. I also think most of the dehydration is from being at the pet store because they didn't have a dripper in the cage and only had one small fake vine that they could even drink off of when they were misted. As soon as we got him home and in the cage he drank almost immediately from the dripper. Thanks again for the help guys...

when he is about a year old i wouldnt worry to much about him getting into the soil.. but while hes young i wouldnt want to risk impaction...

yeah...i woudnt put that past any pet sore.. seeing as how he drank immediately form the dripper, more than likely the pet store was his dehydration problem..
