Ouch! Poor Tommy!

Tommy has always had trouble shedding the tip of his casque. This afternoon he had a loose bit right on the tip. After misting him I lifted it up a little to see if it would fall off. I DIDN'T pull at it as I know how much of a 'no-no' that is with shedding skin. Anyway, Tommy yanked his head away and the shed came off in my fingers! The stuck shed was definitely more than one layer thick and it bled a little where it came off. Is there anything I should do/look out for? I am worried for my special l'il man!

Just put some neosporin on it, tell Tommy you love him and don't worry, he will be fine.

I don't know if I can get that in the UK or not. I have left him alone for now, but I'll check on it tomorrow. I felt awful, but he pulled his head so hard and fast I had no time to react! I know when Lily had some stubborn shed I would damp it with a wet q tip and it would just come away, but I think that bit of skin was just a layer or more too thick. My poor boy! It kind of put a damper on my day - he's got a lot more yellow showing on his face after this shed and he just looks so amazing! His casque is looking so much better now though - it's the second shed he's had with me. Goodness knows how he ever shed properly before as he was never misted by his last owner. That's probably why he had a hard time shedding the tip of his casque.

What you want is an OTC antibiotic ointment without pain reliever to protect the injury and prevent possible infection. Polysporin, Neosporin, triple antibiotic, pretty much the same thing.

Well, Tommy has been his usual self today - wanting to come out and just being rather friendly! Fortunately I can't see any marks or anything where the shed came off yesterday, so I am really happy. He is still shedding and looking rather tatty, bless him! Where he has finished shedding, his new skin looks a LOT brighter and cleaner this time and his casque has shed totally too which is great!
