This is Oscar, our rescue GTP. He tagged me good today while I was handling him to clean his enclosure. Unfortunately he got a vein in two places, caused some swelling and bled for about 20 mins.
Naughty boy Oscar! :)

Nah, Im fine, I just bleed alot because I have to take blood thinners, Im quite used to snake bites.
Yes, I was kind of distracted and not being particularly thoughtful, so it was my fault.
He's due a feed too so probly hungry aswell, but it was a defensive bite.
:)
p.s. It did actually hurt a little more than usual afterward, due to him getting the veins,
but the bite itself didn't. The teeth are very fine and very sharp and the bite quick, so you often dont realise you've been tagged till its done LOL.

Just an excuse to put up some pics, tease the squeamish :D

Please don't take this the wrong way, but those pics are pretty cool! Not that I'm happy you were bit, I just dont get to see many snake bites:)

I was gonna say Jo, your blood looks a little liquidy!

Hope you cleaned it up well, nice to see a GTP every now and then.

lol, sorry but the first thought when i seen pictures of blood and your bite i was like..

When you got bit was your first thought "OOOH WHERES THE CAMERA!! "

was just what i was thinking :p

Hope your arms okay though :D

Absolutely Levi,
it's 'pics or it didn't happen' LOL
Actually I was taking the first two pics of him at the time, since I was handling him anyway, Id just put the camera down when the bugger got me. Had my daughter snap the 'blood shots'.
Thats exactly the first thoughts of alot of snakers though! :D

Yup Syn, bloods like water these days, dont have to worry bout vampires! :D

One of the swellings hurts a bit though, may have a tooth in it, which concerns me for the snake. They do break teeth catching prey in the wild, but in captivity you want to avoid it really, lessens the chance of IS (mouthrot) from a peirced gum or something.
I think hes ok though.

Your welcome Jessica, and Stefan, yeah Im fine mate! :)

P.S purely co-incidental, Im looking after some animals for a freind and while cleaning etc yesterday, his roughy escaped, just launched itself from the enclosure. Only thing I had to pin it with was a dustpan with a rubber lip.
Glad it didn't bite! :) He's one of those freinds who make you seriously consider a life insurance increase! You never know what snakes he has there, I'm absolutely so careful over there, I dont want to meet a cranky taipan.

Snake pics I can handle ,snakes up close make me queasy ,don't know why. I uses to catch snakes by the dozens when I was younger. I can't even go near snake tables at the expos.

Dan that snake needs to stop watching twilight!! He is trying to make it too real. Glad you are ok, but be careful about that bleeding on blood thinners. We needddddddddd you.:)

LOL, twighlight! :D

Somebody who didnt know better might imagine the two spots where the bloods coming from were 'fang' marks, but its actually just the bottom jaw, you can see where the top jaw is above it.
I think he just got his sesame street characters mixed up, thought 'Oscar' was 'The Count'. :D

where exactly, is the blood running from??? where is the wound?

The wounds are where the bloods coming from, just tiny pinpricks, GTP teeth are very very fine, needle like.
Two on the vein, you can see the swelling, two above from the top jaw. :)
