Well I see my Cham B lining for the bottom of his cage so of course it peaks my interest so I'm watching going well what have you found to eat then he gets down on the rocks on one of planters so now I'm really going what the hell? He's cocking his head back and forth poking his nose in the rocks pushing them around and straight up going nuts! Then he backs off a little and I see a common garden slug so I backed him off of it because I didn't know if it'd be safe for him well maybe you can tell me here's a pic!

i started with organic soil too.
won't do that again, between the gnats and the slugs it was not good.
Every nite before i went to bed I would take my flashlight in the dark and hunt for slugs. They bred in the soil , got quite large, would crawl on one of my chams, got out of the cage and I would find them on my kitchen counter!!.
So gross
Changed the soil, now my cages are in the garage :p

So my guess would be your Cham probably picked some off? Are the safe cause if they're safe I don't care let him snack them gone lol but if they're not I'll be changing the soil out!

so what type of soil do you use?

I didnt let them eat any cause they are just too gross for me. I am mean, I put them in a baggy and put them outside in the daylight

I just use regular potting soil without chemicals added. then I put washed sand on top of that, then smooth river rocks

from what ive heard, they can be fed, but are a main host for parasites and are very very slimy which isnt too good...

I was having problems with gnats as well in my store bought organic soil. The problem is that organic soil contains animal manure. I now use pure Eco earth for my potted plants, sometimes with a bit of play sand mixed in. So far this has worked beautifully.

I'm not a big fan of gnats and slugs all over the place so I'm definitely going to go this route as well

I've never had a gnat problem with organic soil. I like to mix up some of my own since I use a compost pile for my tortoise.

CB slugs are okay. As are CB snails. Not so much the wild caught kind.
