So my wife got me some organic potting soil and it has white stuff in it. Is it okay to use?

Its perlite in it.

Yes, sounds like perlite. Some chams insist on shooting at or eating the stuff. It does help the soil drain well, but you could always cover the soil surface with rocks so the cham can't get any on its tongue.

I do that anyway, so its fine to use just cover the soil?

Then u shall let it drain away ,repeat, drain until u stop watering and settle with some big rock on top of those soil.

no, its not coming out the bottom. It is coming out the top after I put the rocks on, I pour in water and the white stuff floats up on top of the rocks.

Also is a pothos with a ton of branches going into the soil. No way I can completely cover this.

Sounds like it doesn't have drainage holes in the bottom? have you checked? either that or your perlite has not soaked up enough water and is too dry at the moment to be weighed down. If I'm correct I'm pretty sure perlite soaks up water and then gets heavier.

Its got a whole bunch of drain holes huge ones, so many and so large I put some screen down. I dont know about this stuff sitting at the bottom. From the reading I was just doing this stuff always floats to the top.

I counted :) 19 1/2 inch holes on the bottom of this thing.

Yeah just read that too XD in order to stop it, put some eco earth ontop of it for like the first inch, and then cover with rocks

Can you drain them(perlite with water) without the rock on top of the soil ?drain as much as u can then cover with the rock and let it settle

Welp dont got ecoearth and it costs as much as the soil might as well just throw this out and buy some more.

just tried that, the problem is there is a ton of perlite in here. Like the soil is 2 tone white and black. When I tried that the pete moss comes out with it and I am left with black water and that is it.

Do you have any moss? If you put moss on top of the soil then rocks it should do the same as the eco earth

hmmm.. then I would buy new soil and check the ingredients to see whether it says perlite or not.

I hope I didnt cause u any marriage problem right now,n dont yell at ur wife or she might put u on the sofa tonight ,if I were u ,go to lowes tomorrow buy some new soil n some roses to put it in the perlite soil n appraise ur wife with them so both of u can be happy.
