Open space concept

My veiled loves her space. She is always climbing all over it. Almost 4 and has always lived in a habitat like this. It's in the corner of my room, a perfect vine perch for her under the lamp, the UV is at the bottom shining up.

She is in the sand in that pic :(

A couple things I would tweak here:
She needs to be within 6-7" of the UVB bulb to get the most benefits-this is the first time I have ever seen one shining up. How do you keep water from getting on it? UVB bulbs also must be changed every 6-9 months.
I would be worried that she could burn herself on that heat lamp.
How does she drink? With no live plants I don't really see a place for her to drink off of the leaves or a way to keep humidity up.
I would make that laying bin bigger-at least 10" deep and 10" in diameter. She may not be laying because the bin is not big enough.

How does UVB work shining up? I thought it was supposed to shine downwards. >_<

Agrees with Julirs. She is probably burning herself on that lamp. :(

Oh yes I know. Don't worry! :) The lamp is usually higher, elevated right at the top but we lowered it to give her warmth because she's in the dirt (see at the bottom?)

To give her water we shower her and drip water droplets from a bottle over her head/mouth and she drinks that way. She's always had a big open set-up like that. A breeder told us she was really muscular and healthy, (she gets a lot of climbing) and the vet also said she was hydrated fine. She has never had a problem from heat, never opens her mouth, and has never gotten thermal burns.

I want to put a live plant in the bin, which I will do soon. In the chameleon guide the vet gave me it says you can use artificial or real plants. I am also a little iffy about her UVB lamp though, but her main owner seems to think its ok shining up. Any suggestions on how we could put the UVB light? She used to have a massive aquarium at the bottom, but my bf travelled up by greyhound to get to where we go to school so had to leave that behind unfortunately.

Thanks! That's an awesome thread. She has been almost 5 months in this place.

My bf had the UVB lamp over her for most of her life. We are concerned this might be why she's so sick now or if its just because she's old. She also gets natural sunlight, the window is right by her and often open, as well as the screen moved.

So she is sick? How is she looking or acting sick? I would love to see a pic of the cham. I would definately move the UV back to coming from the top. Light naturally comes from above. I would wonder if they can even absord UV the same way from their belly side. Never seen a cham bask upside down to sun their belly.:)

Also, it has to be fairly stressful having light coming from below. Imagine if the lights in your house were on the floor shining up... Wouldn't be the most comfortable way to light your area would it?
