Open Free Range Help

Hello every one! I have a few question regarding free range. I live in California where on some days it can get very hot. On hot days the temp in the room comes close to basking temp (My normal is daytime 75-85 w/ basking of 85-90). What should I do with basking area? I'm using the Reptisun All-In-One. The temp varies from bottom to top of tree, normally 70-85 from bottom to top with the basking area of 88 normally. I'm a little stuck on what to do with hot days for basking. Also when using my digital thermo to scan areas should I scan the small area or actually scan the plant itself?

If your room is going to get 85-90 degrees then I would not use a basking light, just the uvb. Maybe use like a 20 watt that would not give off much heat just so your panther can think it is the sun and may want to sit under it.

I do also have the meter that will shut off the light when it hits a certain temp degree, would that also work? Thank you for replying!

If your ambient room temps are high then you won't require a basking light however your cham will still require access to a UVB bulb in order to produce calcium in their body. This is especially important with a young Cham - and I personally would not FR a youngster 24/7 as they would require regular access under the light to grow and develop strong, straight bones early on. This is my opinion only however and I'm certain there are other, more experienced Cham keepers who have FR'd their young chams from babyhood.
