Hello everyone. This egg is in a clutch that was laid on March 7th...I have had two already hatch from this clutch earlier this week(which I thought was a bit early) Anyway, this morning when I chekd on them, the egg in the picture had this weird yellow colored thing sticking out of it that I have not seen before. Anyone have any ideas wahat it is?

Thanks in advance, Jeffrey

Hey Jeffery,

Is this egg from the first clutch after a known successful mating or a "retained" clutch? I have not had eggs shoot out a stream of yolk like that but I have had eggs go full term and sweat for nothing to happen. When I cut the eggs open they do not have a formed embryo in them. Its just a mushy substance that looks the same as the egg in question. In my experience there are more in a "retained" clutch than in the clutches from the first mating.

How is your girl doing?

Yes, it is a clutch from some reatined sperm....I didnt know that could make a diference or I would of said it in my original post. I will leave it alone for now and see what happens.

i also had several eggs from the first clutch that sweated, and shrank and then....nothing! They just molded over.

Hope this one goes better!

if it's not just about to hatch, chances are it's from too much moisture. The egg can swell and essentially pop. The shell weakens from the welling, tiny flaws appear, and the contents seep out.
