So i got a really healthy small pothos today for my baby cham.

1. What kind of soil do i buy to replace the one it comes with? The potting soil at Lowes has the lil foam balls, so I assumed that was no good...

2. Anything special I need to know about this plant?

3. Does it have to be hanging?

thanx guys!

1. Replace with an organic soil that has no fertilizers or foam balls.
2. They are easy to keep but keep them wet.
3. It would be better to hang them i think

How do I hang it in my cage??? I was going to keep it in the enclosure.
Where can i get organic soil?

ive had mine for a little over a month now, its right near my humidifier and i spray it twice a day.. its been growing a lot, i got mine at home depot and the soil looked fine to just put it in so i did.. as for hanging it i just let it sit on the bottom of the cage...

all in all, great plant and easy to take care of

Snatch: If there is any white beads or fertilizers in the soil get it out fast. It can kill your cham.

xoiceox: Home depot its called organic soil etc. And put plant on bottom and use garbage ties to attach vine to sides of cage and then go all over.

How do I hang it in my cage???

I hung mine by drilling three small holes in the fold of the plant pot. I then took some thin wire and passed it through the hole and threaded it through a small washer (the washer is bigger than the whole you made) and then I threaded the other end of wire through the screen to the shelf above my cages. I think you could make a couple of extra holes for extra wires and tie off to the cages screen. The extra wires would distribute the weight. You could also get some dowel rods for a craft store long enough to reach the frame of your cage so the weight isn't on the screen.

You can see the wires tied off.

You can see two of the washers in this shot.

Replace soil with a topsoil. I use the supersoil brand. Also i would get a spray bottle and add soapy water to it. Then spray down all the leaves and rinse them off. That will clean any other pesticides that might be there.

I have a pothos in my enclosure and what I did was put a short plant stand in there and just put the pot on that. I figure it keeps it a good height for her to climb on and the stand has legs and a twisted design that I fed my vines through. Ill try to post pics later. Good Luck

palstic canvas & stands

You can use plastic canvas to put over soil to keep soil in place and keep your cham from shooting bits of fertilizer balls and other things that rise to the top yet water can still get through.

and yes, plant stands are great of they are large plants. Cy's cage is a mess right now due to all the "padding" so I can't really take any pics but I am sure others will come thru. here is a pic of the plastic canvas covering a small pot. it is cheap, easy to cut, no sharp edges and will never rust. I hold it in place with coated paper clips. Great stuff :D

that said, it is still a good idea to repot in fresh soil anyway. I put a layer of wet coco-fiber on top of soil, tamp down well then put PC over it. this help to keep in moisture and everything in place.

I sit mine in the bottom of the cage and put an extra flower pot turned upside down under it so it would be up higher. Then I wrapped both pots with the plastic fencing so they wouldn't slide or fall over and so the cham could crawl up.
