Not sure when to start breeding my female

so my female I bought in october at 2 months old (so I was told), it is now april so she is 8 months old. Is it true that they should be a certain weight before attempting to breed? I showed my male to my female today and she didn't change any odd colours or gape or sway or anything and my male went crazy with the head bobbing, I have since put him back in his tank as I only did this to see her reaction and she didn't seem too bad (I didn't put him in her terarrium though).

I am guessing the rule of thumb is to wait until the female is a year old correct? Should I wait until she has an infertile clutch (layed) so I know she is ok? I can't wait to start breeding them as my bearded dragons (breeding pair that live together) havent mated in about 5-6 months. He must be getting impatient waiting lol.

(I have attached pics of the 2)

(First 1 = Male, Second 1=Female)

Hello there! My personal opinion on breeding is to wait until the female is a year old (as you have stated :) ). This gives the female plenty of time to grow and develop, even if she seems big for her age. What species of chameleon do you have? I waited until my veiled cham was a year old before I bred her, and was very happy with the results. She recuperated quickly, and had a vet appointment the week after, of which he was very pleased. All in all, ensuring that your female has reached her adult age will improve her recovery time and health when laying eggs. Hope this helps you! :)

I was told by my mentor (10 yrs breeding ambilobes) to wait nine months .he also told me not longer becuz then she will lay infertile eggs .good luck

Most recommend waiting until the female is a year old OR 65 grams. Whichever comes first.

Yes most do recommend one year ,I've asked several good breeders and theysaid to 8 months , 9, in the wild they breed as early as 6, the main thing is that they are big enough for their body to handle it.but like the earlier senior member said most forum members recommend one year.
