My 7 mo old panther hasnt been eating much lately. I noticed yesterday he is starting to shed. Will that cause him to slow down on eating. His behavior seems to be normal. Should I be worring about this??

I've definitely heard that shedding can lower their appetite. Provided he is eating and defecating he will probably be fine, keep an eye on him after he has shed and make sure his appetite comes back.

How do you define lately? 1 day? 2 days? A week? Try different feeders to rule out a specific food strike.

Shedding could well be the reason. If his appetite doesn't come back after that it could be worth doing a faecal to check he doesn't have parasites.

chams do have a tendency not to eat as much when going through the shedding process, or they tend to get more picky towards eating specific foods, try leaving the insects in a cup so its available to him whenever he(she) wants it. keep an amount noted to see how much he ate, so next time he sheds you will have a good idea on how much he ate:D

Its hard to keep track of how many he has in there. I just transferred him to his new 24x24x48 cage. That may be the issue too. His droppings seem fine. Will he get tired of the same food?? I feed him crickets (8-12) daily and ocassionally give him superworms. I havent given him any new crickets in 2 days b/c when I check on him in the morning before leaving for work he still has some in the top of his cage.

This has been going on for about 5 days or so I would say. I tried giving him a roach but he had no interest in it at all. So I took it out. (my wife hated the idea of having roaches in the house).

Okay so I'll try to break down this situation for ya and see if I can't help out...

1)Yes his appetite has decreased in part of shedding as this is quite normal behavior..

2) At seven months old try feeding every other day and try to mix it up a bit with supers, silks, pheonix worms, etc...

3) switching him to a new cage near a shed happened to me and so did this exact situation... I think personally there is a connection to more space and a rapid shed but thats just me... If you are free ranging the bugs I would try to cup feed especially with worms and such to keep an eye on what he is eating especially being in a larger cage

Hope that helps :)

When i start feeding every other day do I want to increase the amount of crickets I put in his cage?
How Many worms should I feed him??
