I've been here in FL for over 20 years and I think I've seen more spoonbills this year than in all past years combined. On your next trip, if you are in the Naples area there are 2 places for you to check out to see more wildlife. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary (Audubon Society-run) is a 2 mile boardwalk through the swamp. Near there, CREW Bird Sanctuary. This is for more adventurous souls - it's a 12 mile circuit that was an old logging trail through the swamp. The trail is elevated slightly, and about 8-10' wide. There are NO boundaries between you and the wildlife, so bring a walking stick and leave the kiddos and dogs at home. I've skirted past 12' gators, and my mother once nearly stepped on a cottonmouth.
