Nosy Valiha For Sale

Motherlode Chameleon

Chameleon Enthusiast
Here is an article for all you fans of Nosy Valiha Furcifer pardalis. The island of Nosy Valiha is officially for sale/for lease. It is being offered up for sale as a possible resort or a golf course. Chameleon conservation speaking if they keep the laying areas, tree's and brush the island should still be adequate habitat for the islands Furcifer pardalis. However other than the Furcifer pardalis I have not seen any environmental assessment of the island to assess what the impact of either of these developments would have on the islands other wildlife. If impact statements are policies that the Madagascar government requires for these kinds of proposed developments? This small island of 950 acres is only selling for $4,000,000 Euro's or $4,952,573 USD. Here's a link:D.

This is if the buyers even develop the island. This island could prospectively become an ecotourist nature preserve to the right buyer.

Clothing optional too ;)

The island is only available as a long term lease. 5 mil will get you 30 years.

Thanks Carl. I over looked the read more section of the for sale part of the add at the very bottom part of the add. For sale is listed at the beginning of that add then at the very end it says for lease of 30 years only. Big difference. Regardless it would still be epic to own an entire local of Furcifer pardalis for 30 years though.

Kind Regards

so they arent even really selling it? merely renting it for 30 years for 5mil? interesting. but yeah, i would open a few hotels and have a small portion of the island be touristy, try to make some reefs to attract scuba enthusiasts, and then make crazy amounts of different locales present with the rest of island.

Sorry, but don't you think it's a BAD idea to put different locales there? You would just ruin a unique, one of a kind, not found anywhere else on the planet, strain of paradalis. Why would you do that?

Once some company takes on the lease of this island you can probably say good bye to most of the tings that make it special. Its close proximity to Nosy Be means it would be over run with tourists. Sediment from construction and sewage from one or two hotels will destroy what is left of the fragile reef. This is truly sad because some reef's around Madagascar have the ability to resist bleaching. Two man made lakes are already in the process of being built to provide freshwater.

There are resort developments that are considered eco friendly developments. There are examples of these types of developments around the world in popular ecotourist spots. They are built in a way to limit the developments impact on the environment around them. A big part of what the ecological impact is going to be on Nosy Valiha (if Nosy Valiha is leased and developed) is how it is managed. However it appears though that the present owners are targeting buyers who want to keep and maintain a healthy thriving ecosystems around this island as stated with the mentioning of the pristine coral reefs/turtle nesting beeches /whale watching area as some of the major tourist draws. Although the consideration of an airport is concerning.

Here's a link to a good eco lodge/resort in Masoala.

Well when presenting it that way, perhaps you are right. But the idea of all kinds of specialty ones roaming just excited me.

He's is right introducing many locals to one island idea although tempting ecologically is not a great conservation idea. However owning your own entire local is what is epic.
