Hi guys, im new to chameleon keeping and newer to this forum, I bought a veiled chameleon almost a week ago, I was told he is one year old...my problem is he won't eat....I have gut loaded morio worms, locusts and crickets(porridge oats, sweet potatoe, carrots, a dry"bug grub"mix from pet store and oranges)....once I had got the fella home I tried to feed him morio worms which he took the 1st one tho the worm seemed to turn and bite him...so he hissed and shook it off...since then he won't touch them nor the locusts etc...he will eat waxworms from my hand tho I know they are not ideal to feed as a sole food source but no sure what else to feed him as he really has no intrest in anything else I put in his cage. He is active enough during day climbing around etc he just doesn't seem to eat.

His tank is a big six foot tank, with mesh front, I have a mixture of artificial and real plants...Boston fearns etc(iv done homework and bought non toxic and pesticide free plants)....

The temp in his viv is around the high 70oF (any higher and he seems to pant or site with mouth open)

Any tips or ideas greatly welcome.

Hello and welcome to the forums. It is not unusual for chameleons to not eat or eat heartily when they are put in a new environment. They do go through a period of adjustment.. Some will eat right away, but others do not. What kind of lighting are you using? What are you measuring your temps with? Do you have a basking area for him? He should not be gaping(mouth open) with temps that are a little higher than 70, that is why I am questioning your temperature. Just to let you know, I took in an adult chameleon and he did not eat for 11 days!!!! Is he drinking? How are you providing water?
