Night glo light?

no chameleons do not need or like light to sleep. You can use a small ceramic heater if your temps get in the low 50's or below that but actual light is not necessary

I use mine just because I bought it and don't want it to go to waste but if you notice when you turn the lights off and the next morning when you get up they are in the same spot as when you turned the light off at night. They don't move around at night so I agree they don't need no light.

chameleons sleep like we do..however they are NOT like children that are afraid of the dark..they do not need light at night..matter of fact they need total darkness..like was mentioned ..if your temps are lower than 50 use a ceramic heat buld (they emit only heat)..

Chameleons have a "3rd eye" or parietal eye to help them sense where light is coming from. It's merely a photosensitive area that usually looks like a single lighter scale in the center top of their head. It's much more visible in iguanas and some other lizards, but still present in chams. A lot of reptile species have them to help them find good places to bask and regulate UV exposure. So even though your chameleon is sleeping with its eyes closed they are actually still registering the light source that comes from a night source, which disrupts their sleep cycle. For that reason you should not use anything that emits light (however dim) at night. They can tolerate temps down into the 50s so if it gets lower than that consider using a ceramic heat emitter or a space heater rather than a light.

just curious everyone is alway so insistant on compleat darkness is their no MOONLIGHT where chams come from, just a thought

Of course there's moonlight! The way I think of it is that in the jungle chams usually sleep in the trees where there are lots of leaves and branches to filter and block light. They're not sleeping in an open field where the light would always be on them. And the difference between having a light bulb always producing a high amount of light only a few inches away with nothing but screen filtering it and the moon that varies in intensity based on its phase that's many thousands of miles away and blocked by the jungle canopy is significant imo.
