Newly acqured F Jax - gravid and thin? Pics.

This past Sunday I picked up a Female Jackson's from a local reptile show with some hopes of eventually breeding her to my male. She was Hawaii wild caught and in the previous owners care for 5 months. She is in quarantine and hopefully de-stressing in her new enclosure. The previous owner did mention that he has seen her with a male and believes her to be gravid. I think that she is.

I have included some pics for opinions on if she appears a bit thin. I'm thinking she might be a bit, she has fairly pronounced hips in comparison to my male and slight rib definition. She IS eating and drinking very well.

So take a look at the pics for me if you dont mind. Think she looks a bit thin? Gravid?

Sadly I think you are correct, she does look thin & gravid. Hope you can get her healthy enough to survive having babies. let us know how it goes.

She does look a little thin, but not too bad. I think with a little extra TLC she'll do fine. Good job on quarantining her. Good luck!

I just posted an update on a litter of Jacksons born for me last December. I gave a little info on my females history. Yours is a very similar situation as mine was. I even mentioned in my post about how her hips or pelvis was showing, and your pictures look identical to what my girl looked like. I had no idea she was gravid and she surprisingly gave birth to a small, but healthy litter of 3 little ones. I saw no indication that she was gravid. If she is eating good, then make sure she gets fed everyday. I strongly suggest gutloading your feeders with some leafy greens rich in calcium and some spirulina. I used turnip greens and I ordered some spirulina through a healthfood website. I'm rather reserved about supplementing my montane species much, but I would dust her feeders every 2nd or 3rd feeding with a calcium powder with no D3. You may give her a light dusting with D3 once, maybe twice a month at the most. The spirulina is probably the best source of plant based protien you can give her. I did this for my female not even knowing she was gravid, and you wouldn't even recognize her today. She has grown substantialy and has put on a normal body weight. Give her a basking spot of about 80-83F. Make sure she stays hydrated as well. Good luck. Let us know if she has some little ones.

Thanks all. Yeah, the good new is she has a decent appetite. She ate some half inch crix dusted with calcium -d3 and a decent side dubia (what my wife and I would call a pre-teen :) ), snubbing silkworms though, just eyeballs it :(

TLC is no problem in this house, we baby every one of our reptiles. :D

Update

Thought I would post an update.

The female (Buttercup) was treated for worms with Fenbendazole 2 weeks ago. She is doing very well and bulking up. She is looking very good and eating crickets of all sizes including full grown adults and Dubias when I can get them in front of her without hiding first (she wont cup feed very often).

She is way more laid back then my male Wesley. I can reach my hand in the cage without a threat gesture or suicide attempt. :D

I do believe she is going to be fine. :)
