Newby needs reassurance :)

Hi
New to all this, I am the proud owner of a 3-4 month old yemen who is just amazing.
Think I need some reassurance he is happy, he lives in a terranium with multiple levels of branches etc, real and fake plants and eats around 10 medium locus aday. I mist him at least 2 or more times aday and he drinks well. He has a basking spot and a UV tube. He is always a shade of bright green occassionaly with some tan/orange stripes.
I really hope he sounds happy it's just I feel you can read lots and lots and end up with conflicting advice such as "to spray or not to spray the cham??"

My only other question would be, should I be feeding gut loaded locus as his main diet? or crickets as suggested by most people? or a mixture? or is there no real nutritional difference?

A gutloaded variety. Crickets or locusts as a staple, gutloaded and calcium dusted. That reptile vit-all dust isn't bad either. As for hand spraying I have an automated mister but i still spray three times a day with a hand mister. My female veiled will run from it so I dont chase her with it but my male veiled will kinda bask in it and enjoys licking the droplets of his lips. I have also heard it is good for there eyes. So I would spray definitely but gingerly. You could try filling it with hot water and misting at about 6 inches by that distance its not so cold and not so much of a shock to them. I use autosprayer, hand mister and a dripper. Sounds like your on the right track. If someone will link the how to ask for help template and you fill it out pretty much everyone on here will give you lots of great input. What kind of terrarium do you have?

Welcome GrowingZoo, I like that name and it will be true as nobody can't stop at one chameleon.

The reason you see crickets listed as a staple is we can't get locusts here in the US.:( We get crickets cause that is what we can. Gutload your feeds with a nice variety of leafy green veggies, kale, collard greens, mustard greens, that sort of thing, just don't use spinach. Also I often use fruits, mine go nuts for cantaloupe, also offer other fruits, berries are well received.

From what you said you are doing a wonderful job and I am sure your baby is very happy. Before I got auto misters I was often accused of my chameleons not just getting misted but getting monsoons :( I feel lots of water it always good so keep up with your spraying that is great. The dripper also offers a drinking source so it is good too.

After you fill out the form linked about you will get so much advice you won't know what to do. Miss Lily, is from England and will be a wonderful resource for you. pm her with any questions. On the right side of the screen is says private message, the that and put in misslily then ask questions away.

Hope this helps you feel reassured.
