Received my new microscope today. Very excited to start doing fecal floats and looking at all sorts of things. I also got a camera and computer imager so that I can share photos. The possibilities are endless.

Very nice Rachelle! We purchased one right after Dez came out with her Fecal Float video but we still get regular fecals with our vet. We just use it in-between fecals with the vet. We get an early fecal with him if we think we see something for him to confirm. We see so much stuff that we would have misdiagnosed several times and treated for the wrong thing. Pollen looks so much like coccidia and we also saw food particles that looked just like tape worms.
I am very lucky as I have a vet that comes to my home every month. He loves my chams and he needs feeders for his critters so he checks my guys out and helps me treat if needed and gets all my supplies at his cost and I keep him well stocked with feeders. I think I get the best end of the deal but it works for both of us. I would not want to even think about how much it would cost if I was paying regular price for his services.

You arent kidding. I let the vet send out fecals for two of my guys at $62.50 A PIECE!!!! I was sending them to a lady from a bearded dragon website who does them for $5 and will recommend treatment which you can purchase form the site. One of the $62.50 fecals came back with what I am thinking is a misdiagnosis as well (we arent treating as I dont believe the finding), so doing them myself in between will be great. I have a very strong science and medical background so I am comfortable with it. I also got gram stain kits and other fun stuff to play around with.

That's great! I got my new one for Christmas this year. I love it. It's a little sick the excitement I have running around collecting their poo. Haha! I got this really cool laminated parasite chart from one of the dragon websites for Christmas. I'm looking forward to some pictures!

My mother bought a microscope from the thrift store back when I was like 8? So like .. 13 years ago. I remember playing with it. It was a whole kit with the glass rectangles and all in a box. Not sure what happened to it but I wish we still had it. Being the kids we were, my brother and I, we probably destroyed it!
