Hi All,
My son was given a baby Veiled chameleon about 6 months ago. Its doing fine but has out grown his cage. My wife would like me to build the one linked below. I know that the 18" Reptisun 10.0 and 75 watt basking lamp wont work for the new inclosure. I have a couple 48" shop lights that I'm not using. Will I need to use two Reptisun bulbs or can I get use one repti and one normal fluorescent. What size basking lamps should I use? 150watt? should I use two?

TIA

Mark

You might want to add extra lighting just to brighten the environment ... but a basking spot should not be any bigger than it is now.
A small warmer area with a branch is all that's needed regardless of the size of the enclosure.
I wouldn't necessarily change the wattage either ... you'll have to experiment with it ... I wouldn't want it hotter than 90 degrees.
1 5.0 and 1 regular fluorescent is what I use in my 48"double fixture.

Brad,
Thanks for the advice. When I get the cage built I'll pick your brain a little more, if you don't mind.

Looks like I was way off on the basking light Brad. I setup the new enclosure and got a temp reading in the basking area of 68-69. The bulb I was using was only a 50 watt, plus its pretty cold in here, maybe 65 in the mornings. I bought a few more size and i'll play with it for a few days to get right before I put Joe in.

I wondered why he was basking for hours...I'm up to 88 right now using a 150 watt flood (temp still climbing) the temp probes about 12" from the bulb surface. I might have to drop down to a 100 watter.

I've been reading, thanks for the help.
