new fogger

Hampton

i made a fogger after reading the recent thread about them because of the problems i have been having with keeping the humidity levels up in hamptons cage however now it seems like i am faced with a whole bunch of new questions. i am not sure if i should run the humidifier like i mist (four times a day) and im not sure how long really i have the humidifier currently on a timer it turns on for 15 minutes at 9am 12pm 3pm and 6pm. Is this ok? Hampton is a panther chameleon and I am a first time owner and it seems like for every thing I read there are about 4 other statements to contradict it. My other question is in addition to the humidifier I have been misting and have a dripper, if i buy a habba mist can i remove the dripper and stop misting too? and then do i set the habba mist like i would hand mist too or longer if i want to replace the dripper? i want to make sure im doing everything right and he is getting enough water but im just not confident yet

dude personally from my experience i just set it at a level i like and let it run as long as the lights are on for me its about 40% residual humidity and if i feel he needs more i turn it up but other than that its on for 14 hours a day

Cool looks good but that plastic over your reptisun 5.0 might be filtering the uv out you may want to take it off. Just a suggestion.:p

thanks i never heard that there isnt any plastic on the side thats facing the cage though i hope its ok

Howdy Christina,

Your Panther looks healthy :). Chameleonboy mentioned the issue about plastic and the Reptisun UVB tube. It was kinda hard to tell from the photo but are you sure :)o) that there isn't anything, like the clear plastic cover of the light fixture, between the tube's quartz glass and your chameleon other than the enclosure screen? If the fixture's clear plastic cover is in the way, remove it. That type of plastic filters out nearly 100% of the beneficial UVB wavelengths :(. It just looked like there was a glare reflection of the camera flash on some clear plastic next to the tube. Maybe someone cut away the plastic on the bottom portion of the fixture.

To allow better access to the UVB (6"-12" UVB zone) and maybe also the basking light (tune the basking light distance for safe temps), try adding plants stands under your plants to raise them up to nearly the top (1"-2") of the enclosure. A low-cost plant stand can be made by just using upside-down plastic plant pots. The pothos can be hung rather than trying to raise it using a super-tall plant stand. If you are like me, I hate the thought of punching a hole in the screen, so I carefully pinch twisties between the top and sides of the enclosure, at the screws, and then tie those to whatever I'm using to hang across the enclosure. Continue to use vines in a horizontal layout to make additional basking zones in and around the plants in that 6"-12" area near the top of the enclosure.

Keep-up the good husbandry :). (Don't forget about the SBCK! :D)

this was so helpful i do have a plastic cover and i had no idea i will remove it right away and fix the vines to and i am hoping to work out some kind of drainage system this weekend and will be able to add plant stands then too i was just afraid of changing to much at once and he just got the humidifier and a habba mist so i wasnt sure about changing his plants right away too. thanks again for the advice that was very helpful
