New Fischer's Chameleon

Kaisersoze

Hello everyone, this is my first post so im going to see if i manage to add pictures if it works xD
I bought a Fischer's chameleon 1 1/2 weeks ago and it is the first chameleon i've had so im not sure if everything is ok with him. Before this i had Iguanas and bearded dragons but i heard the care for chameleons is much more work and they are much more sensible ?
Kaiser (my cham.) is about 6 months old, not shy at all as he eats well and eats the insects from my hand, he drinks as-well and he isn't shy to be taken out of his terrarium as he is a curious little thing, so all that is OK. However i often see him scratching at the windows of the terrarium and didn't know whether this is normal? Yes it is glass but at the moment it's all I've got and at the pet-store where i bought him in Germany, all of the cham's were in glass terrariums and seemed perfectly happy. And apart from that he doesn't change colour very often and mostly stays brown mixed with some lighter colours, and goes green when he sleeps, but rarely when he's just walking around. Is this normal? any help would be nice. thanks :D

I think you need more greenery in the cage so he will have a place to hide if he wants to...and more places to sit.
Also...I would remove the substrate so he doesn't ingest it accidentally.

i had a fischer and they are pretty cool. he seem a little stressed out. you should deff need to get him a screen mesh cage if you can't order one you can always build one its way cheaper. ask seeco he is the fischer breeder on this site and is the guru when it comes to fischers.

Heres some stuff that chameleons need:
A mister (Mist every few hours or so)
A screen cage
Lots of plants. You can get real plants like Pothos, Ficus, and hibiscus.
A 5.0 Reptisun Bulb for UVB, this is one of the most needed things
A basking bulb, I wouldnt go over 70 watt
They need a drop in temp at night, so turn the lights off and dont use a night bulb!
Dont use bedding, it might look nicer but its harder to clean and chams can digest it a die! :(
Dont use water dishes, mist only!
You need to dust with calcium without d3 everyday, and a calcium with d3 2 a month. Same with multivitamin
Brown usually means stress.
Hope I answered some of your questions. :)

Isn't he handsome! As long as you have good ventilation, a mostly glass enclosure can work very well. They are not big color changers. Brownish during the day, lighter greenish at night is very normal. If they get extremely vibrant it indicates something is either exciting or stressing him.

He looks like he may be having a bit of trouble shedding, so I would think the more humid environment of a glass cage might help it as long as you have some ventilation in the front and the screen lid and place the lights so that they will help create a "chimney effect" and watching that you don't have a build up of stagnant water in the cage that can allow bacteria/mold to grow.

How do you know he's 6 months old?? He looks older to me.

Ok thank's for the help everyone, i ordered a screen cage and real plants for him now! And it was the shop owner that told me he was around 6-7 months old, but im not sure if that's true! :D
