New Cham with eggs

Well this is my first post on this forum so Hellos to everyone :)

I had a jackson chameleon in the past that i had for a few years but he passed away about a year ago. Had been thinking of getting another one for a while and then I figured why not get a female. I read up and was well aware of the egg laying bit. So i had decided to get a female veiled. Got her enclosure all setup and then went out to find one. After finding one I took her back to her new home. She went in like she knew it was home. I didnt think she would be hungry after the move but i gave her a few crickets anyways which she ate quickly. I put my little green girl to sleep and when i came to the cage the next morning to greet her.....

5 little eggs were sitting scattered at the bottom of the tank.

I rushed to get a 14gal tote full of 50lbs of play sand. She has about 6" of sand and after about an hour after the transfer to her tote she dug a really deep hole in the corner and then went back to the branch in her bin. I dont think has laid any in the bin yet. Im not gunna lie i peeked at her and she saw me because i wanted to make sure she was ok. She has been in the bin all day...... is this normal?

Thanks in advance
Fred

so now she has two eggs that she laid in the bin but it looks like she just dropped them from sitting on a branch they are not in a hole.

welcome to the forums! it is normal for them to be in the lay process for a while inside the tunnel in some cases it can even take a few days. what i recommend doing now is just to leave her alone cover her cage and let her do her thing. do not disturb her. other wise she won't finish laying and become egg-bound also make sure your container full of sand is at least a foot, they like to dig deep.

I left her in her bin overnight. When I went to check on her this morning she had a big pile of eggs sitting at the top of her hole not buried or anything. She has laid a total of 27 eggs now. Not sure why she didnt put her eggs in her hole. It seems like she just sat on the branch in her bin and just pooped em out lol. Im wondering if she did this because she is inexperienced or was something stressing her out? Shes in her main tank now, im hoping that was all the eggs she had. =/

Goin to give her a good meal now

also here is a pic of her seconds after i got her in her tank. My old jackson loved being held, this one not so much. Idk if she is just being protective over her offspring or if its because i just got her two days ago.

Either way, they are out of her and she can't get eggbound.

Should have got a female Jacksons, since they give live birth.

And i see you are on instagram.. Im JonRich1320 on there

i just started following you on instagram :D

im glad she got all her eggs out and she is now doing fine just waiting for her to settle in so i can try taking her out in the sun

Ok so im kinda freakin out...... i just went to put some crickets in zeldas cage and she had one single egg at the bottom of her tank. There is no way she is already about to lay again right??? or do you think she was holding that egg since she the last time??

im pretty confused

ok make that 2 eggs.....

should i put her in her laying bin??? has anyone else experienced this? this seems really soon to be having eggs again.

also she has been eating 9 crickets a day with no problem, she runs around her cage snatching them up. She is very active so im not concerned with her being egg bound just yet but im still pretty confused....

she was with another female when i got her two weeks ago from the pet store. Im not sure if she was with one before that or not :(

she is in her laying bin now, i did notice the eggs that she had this time look a lot more developed

They could have been still in her from the last time. If that's the case, it's rather unusual. I've never heard of a female laying more so quickly or taking so long to lay the rest. Watch her very carefully as she may become eggbound.

She may not have buried them last time because they were infertile.

i will deff keep my eye on her without being too obvious so i dont bug her. She has been pooping and eating fine so that keeps me less worried but this does seem very strange.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334036642.508215.jpg Well she has gone to bed a few hours ago in her laying bin, I was just curious if her eggs were normal size. I'm having a hard time believing a Cham could even come out of something this small.

those eggs ar enormal sized.
The eggs actually grow as time passes.

My female just laid 38 fertile eggs, and they are that size.

But as the baby develops, the egg will grow larger.

Well she didn't leave any eggs for me today. That's crazy that the eggs grow I have never heard of that before. I'm wondering if I have fertile eggs or not :/
I would feel messed up if I have just been treating the fertile eggs like infertile ones.

only way to know is to incubate them and see waht happens.

if they arent fertile, they will dent and mold over in a fwe weeks

So I placed her in her main cage and gave her the daily feeding and she ate it right up. Now she is sitting basking sporting her gravid colors. She left a poop in her laying bin that's it. I think she's fu%#ing with me :/
