New Cham, not eating and now seems sleepy

Hi there,

I might be being a little overly-worried/cautious (first time chameleon mum and I wanna be a good one) but I got my Yemen exactly a week ago and he hasn't eaten at all - which I understand is common when they are getting used to a new environment, but he's young and now he seems to have become quite sleepy.

He has come down to drink when I've misted and I have a drip for when I'm not in - however I haven't seen him drink in about two days.

I'm just a bit worried as he hasn't eaten at all and now he's seeming tired. He is still wandering about a little bit, but most of the time when I check on him his eyes are closed.

Apart from this he does seem fine, his colour is quite bright and he seems quite happy for me to open up the enclosure when I need to spray or anything.

Are his eyes sunken in, and what color is his poop? This may just be him free adjusting to his environment, have you put any thing new in his enclosure? And is he sleeping during the day? It may just be him getting used to his environment, this can take more than 2 weeks sometimes.

One eye seems to close more than the other - and on inspection it does appear to look a little swollen, but neither are sunken. His poop is a dark khaki colour. I moved his enclosure around today to try and aid it getting a little more humid for him, but I noticed this yesterday before I moved anything - and apart from that there's nothing new! Yeah sleeping during the day, he does open his eyes if I open the enclosure though, so he is still alert.

Hi there and sorry to hear you are having problems with your little one. Sleeping during the day is usually a sign of illness unfortunately and that coupled with not eating does not sound too good. Can I ask what types of lighting you are using for UVB and Basking? In correct lighting can cause problems with their eyes and could cause closing also if they for instance were too strong.

I was worried someone was gonna say that !

I have an exo terra glow light and I think I have an arcadia fluorecent for UVB - this is what the store I got him from gave to me when I set up the enclosure.

What do you mean glow light? Arcadia uvbs are used by many. Do you know the uvb output??? like 5.0, 6.0 etc?? Is he closing his eyes under the lights or when he is not under them?

I'm pretty sure it's 6.0. Both! Right now he's sitting under a branch with his eyes closed, but even when he's right under the lights they're shut :/
