New baby veiled won't eat crickets instead he eats dirt

I just got my new buddy Link 4 days ago and the day I put him in his cage, he ate 3 "big" crickets free ranged, chased them down and gobbled them up without hesitation, but that's all he ate I never thought much of it since they were a little big I thought maybe that he was full. The next couple of days he only ate 1 cricket and only because I had put it on the branch right in front of him and it tried to run. I thought maybe his crickets were a bit too big so I grabbed some smaller ones these were like a bit bigger than pinheads. And let a few run free in his cage and didn't eat a single one, but I had a superworm on tongs later towards the night and he nabbed that quick. So today I decided to put some of the smaller crickets in a cup right under his basking spot that way he'd only have to reach down a ways and snatch one up, but he didn't eat a single one, instead I look over at him and he's not in the basing spot so I search for him and he's at the bottom, shooting at dirt, I thought there was a cricket in the dirt but he shot again, and I counted the crickets he hadn't eaten a single one, so I put a big cricket into the cup and boy did he go right after it, so I put a little more in like 4, 2 dusted and 2 not. He decided he liked the look of the dusted one and he shot and it feel out of the cup and he kinda gave up on the whole cup like he was upset.

So I guess what I'm asking is: is there something wrong or is he just still getting used to his cage and I shouldn't be worried just yet?

I'll post this in the health clinic too to get a wide range of people..

From the picture those crickets look to big. I would try 1/4 inch crickets/ small for a while

Also alot of people say eating dirt maybe a lack of nutrients, or they just like dirt so put some river rocks ontop of the dirt to keep him from eating it.

That's what I had thought when I first put them in there but he enjoys them more than the smaller ones I have, he does't even seem to notice the smaller ones
