Hey guys,

Im prsenting an informative speech on the husbandry for a Panther Chameleon. What do yall think would be a good link to the audience?? A way to grab the audiences atention and make them want to listen..... I have been thinking about it for this entire day and with all of us it would be easy but considering that Im more than likly the only chameleon owner in the room Im finding it rather difficult....What do you guys think would be good?? Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!:D

It's not really related to husbandry, but how about some facts about chameleons.

Something like don't you wish you could change colors to show your emotion and not have to explain to everyone what your problem was.

Or how about something about how they shoot their food with their tongue. Something like have you ever seen an animal zap an insect from a distance up to 1.5x it's size?

Good luck with it :) I did an informative speech on how to play paintball :p

I am on my colleges speech and debate team. All I do is informative speeches about Veiled Chameleons. Since my audience is fellow college students, I usually build an audience analysis to building self routines and sometimes saying they get girls.. (Remember COLLEGE)

Here is my outline. It is hella old and I usually wing a lot of it now but whatever.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions

Introduction
Attention Getter:
Don’t you wish you could change colors and blend in with your environment? Unfortunately our skin is set on the color we are but there is one Animals that has this ability. That creature is a Chameleon.

Audience analysis:
Chameleons are beautiful animals and even more beautiful pets.
Great Way to get girls....(joke)?

Thesis:
Today, I am going to share with you why Veiled Chameleons are unique lizards and with the right level of respect, anyone can enjoy their beauty.

Preview:
Chameleons are very challenging to take care of but a chameleons is more likely to thrive and live a healthy life if provided with the right housing, lighting and most importantly the right diet.

Body
Housing
Chameleons must only be held in an all screen cage.
Minimum size cage is 3x3x4
Ribello Bertoni, 1994 “Reptile and Amphibian Magazine.
Highly adaptive to their Arboreal (Life in trees) lifestyle
Branches and leaves are ideal
Climbing, basking branches and branches to sleep.
One chameleon per cage
Very asocial and get stressed

Lighting
Chameleons are used to hot environments with low humidity
Temperature range needs to be between 80 to 105 degrees
Full Spectrum lighting that emits UV lighting
According to John Annis in 1995 “Veiled chameleon natural history”
UVB radiation creates vitamin D3 under the skin with helps absorb calcium.
Chameleons are cold blooded
At least one basking lamp with a spot bulb over 75 watts is needed

Captive Diet
Chameleons are insectivorous
Eat an assortment of bugs from crickets to goliath worms
Feeder should be coated with calcium and vitamin supplement
Ronald Tremper 1995 Herptoculture for veiled chameleons
Chameleons grow very fast and high calcium intake is needed to prevent bone disease.
Vitamins prevent animal from getting sick
Water is as important to chameleons as it is to us
Cannot see standing water so require a drip system or a mister.

Conclusion
Preview:
Chameleons are definitely more challenging that Barney but with the right cage, lighting and diet, you will have a beautiful and much cooler pet to show off.

Restate Thesis:
With much respect anyone can enjoy the company of a chameleon.

Attention Getter:
We will probably never be able to change our skin colors on demand but instead you can say “At least I have a pet that can!”

Oh and before everyone starts looking through my speech and start nit picking my speech; remember, this is about veiled chameleons. I am sure there is one error or 2.

Oh and feel free to steal some of that information for your speech if you want. Panthers have pretty much the same care.

Looks Pretty Good To me Huey! :)
Great link Lil ! :)

My take: Take your cham and let it feed during 'Diet', Expand on lighting and explain MBD
in simple terms, showing in relation to your lizard, signes to look for, Eg sunken eyes/dehydration, bent legs/casque/jaw ~MBD etc, pointing out what makes yours a healthy cham.
They will listen, they will watch (oohs n Ahhs for the feeding ladies and gents) and learn too. Being excited, they will also remember! :)

Thanks for the compliment.

Usually informative speeches are only 5 minutes long. She may have wasted valuable time waiting for her cham to eat. It also the distracts the audience. In this situation, a slideshow or short video would be best.

I wanted to bring my cham for the speech but I know nobody would listen to what I would say and just look at the chameleon.
