i was also going to suggest a burn.i believe chams skin is not very thick so the burn may have gone all the way through.i believe Silver Sufadiazine cream works well for burns if it is a burn.i would go and get him checked out at the vets x

I was going to say burn too- but I don't know enough to say for sure - I would say get him to the vet - the problem with burns is that they become infected and then can quickly become a major problem - treating quickly saves heart ache in the long run -

definately a burn, check your basking temps, get him to the vet

When the skin is black like that there isnt much you can do, but when the skin starts to come off you need to apply silvadene to protect the newly formed skin, from possibly getting infected.

It's an odd place for a burn; they usually happen on the top parts of the body like casque and spine. However his shoulder looks odd, almost dislocated. A trip to the vet is definitely in order.

EDIT: The scalation isn't typical of regularly kept chameleons in captivity. Is this a wild caught chameleon by chance? I suspect it's a Chamaeleo africanus.

I agree. Something's wrong, but it is an odd place for a burn. Almost looks like some other type of infection instead.
