Welcome to the chameleon forums! This is a great place to learn about chameleons and meet other keepers. You have a veiled chameleon. Chameleons need allot of special care and if you son is young you are going to need to help with the chameleon care. Just turned 8
My son will turn 8 on Saturday, so it looks as though it will be my responsibility to take care of it, properly. I am enthusiastic about it. I can already see that it is going to require more work than what my wife has planned for.
At any rate, thanks for the great information. I have been reading off and on all morning. I realize that my cage is WAY too small for him and that I am going to be looking for some alternatives. I am going to assume there is a thread or two here about habitats or enclosures; I may want to build my own to get the dimensions I want to incorporate. This is very exciting!
