Need help confirming sex - Oustalets

I think Sami is a little boy - I can just barely see a small bulge but I'd like confirmation from someone more experienced at determining sex. He's about 4-5 months old and shy so it's a challenge to get good photos.

I see a hemipenal bulge, Trace or Kent what do you think? I say boy is there any other way to sex chameleons? Chris Anderson can you tell by their toungs? ?

i just saw the pics you posted im gunna say you have a female there is almost no color at all. its 4 -5 months old and no color im going for female. im almost 100% sure its a female just because there is no color at all

That specimen appears to be a male. There is a small hemipenal bulge after the tail. Male Oustalets don't seem have as a prominent hemipenal bulge as other Furcifer species but a more thicker tail all around.

I've never heard sexing by tongue but there are some species that can be sexed by the colour of the interstitial skin in their gular region.

LitldevlblueBar: That is an Oustalets Chameleon not a Panther and unlike Panther Chameleons when the females get older they are more colourful than the males. It does not help the OP if you guess and offer advice based on that guess.

and that is why i also but im not 100% sure im not an expert i was looking at it as what i have and from what i have seen. i never said it was 100% but i thought i would try and help out next time ill just skip questions like this:(

I’m not trying to be mean but we’ve had problems in the past wherein people have been given the wrong information and their animals have ended up suffering for it. I tend to be a bit of a stickler on these ID type threads. I appreciate your enthusiasm though! Above all a hobby should be enjoyable so stick around and have fun on the fourms and the learning will come naturally.

never said you were mean i just dont wanna be the one to give wrong advice thats why when im not 100% sure on sumthing i will always add " I Am Not 100% Sure." but when i am sure of sumthing ill let them know haha

Thanks.
I was pretty sure it was a male but wanted confirmation from a more experienced eye.

I would bet money Chris could sex a chameleon by tongue. Hmmm that sounds like a new thread. ....

Anyway looks like sami might have to be sam....? Its ok my Lily is now Lilio :)

Your cham is male. youre not supposed to sex by their color anyway, since its not very reliable. my cham is 6 months and barely showing his colors. But yes, you are correct, your baby is a boy.

Sami is an oustalet's chameleon. There is no color to speak of - they are mostly dirt-colored. Though I've seen some adult females that are a pretty green with red.

Well better get on it Chris!

you mean if you had chameleons side by side with the same slow motion videos of their tongues you wouldn't notice any difference among the sexes?

Sorry this probably does not belong on this thread
