My Ambanja Male is about 6 months old and is doing well. He does one weird thing anytime I open his cage he tries climb on my hand. Once he gets out he just likes to grip on my arm and stay there. I always here Chams shouldnt be handled. My Cham is coming out to handle me! Is this normal does anybody elses Cham do this? Is there something wrong? I would appreciate any input. THANKS

It's fine if he wants to climb on you, but re-check your husbandry first! He might be lacking something and trying to get out to find it. Also, is his basking spot higher than your eye level?

Mine does this too. Hes an adult ambilobe. If I dont open the cage door and let him out, he will scratch at the screen door. He only does this when I come into the room to mist the cage and feed. If I sit perfectly still for a while and just watch him he will stop trying to get out and go about his business in the cage but as long as I am moving around in front of the cage he will try to get at me. He has been doing this for about a year now. I plan to setup a large free range this weekend to see if he seems more content out of the cage on a large shefflera or ficus.

coming out

His basking spot is above eye level but maybe im starting to think im not doing something right with his husbandry. I have him in a wooden cage
48'h 20'd by 23'w and the way its built he cant climb upside down on the top part of the screen. I dont know if that frustrates him. But i just want him to be :). I dont know if I should try a lll reptile XL screen cage but I basiccally besides a few inches have the same size cage. I also dont think he should be climbing upside down. Any more suggestions would help. Thanks everyone!

It isn't necessary to purchase the screen cage. The cage you have now is nice, I am sure he loves it. Maybe the temperature in his cage is too warm? Or maybe nothing is wrong, and he just likes you?
