need advice - male panther reluctant to breed

Is there anything that can be done to try to stimulate a male panther to breed?
I have a CB 1 1/2 year old ambilobe male that is very healthy and a great eater. He has never been exposed to a female until yesterday. I introduced a receptive female into his cage very slowly last night without any success. He did fire up but it was more of a defensive posturing than a breeding one. There was no head bobbing or pursuing of the female. He is very laid back in general and will not even flair up when you show him a mirror image of himself. I have had this happen before and always with captive bred specimens, never WC (they always seem ready for action). Any advice would be appreciated as I hate to waste a beautiful female's breeding potential. The male is carrying great genetics (red-body, blue bar from Amazing Blue Reptiles' bloodlines) but it doesn't do any good if he isn't willing to pass them along.

I forgot to ask if there is a window of opportunity for males, as well as females, for breeding. In other words, if you wait too long after a male becomes sexually mature to actually introduce a female to him will it possibly reduce his sexual response? Do I have the equivalent of a 40-year old virgin?

Ive seen it happen before in virgin males and the only thing I can really tell you is to keep introducing her to him daily. If you are bringing her to him, try switching it up and bring him to her. Put him in her cage and leave them for a few hours, but monitor them obviously. Give them some privacy, maybe he is just shy :)
