I purchased this guy as a nosy be and at night he is a light blue/green with a red throat but in the day when upset or nervous he looks like this! My guess is he is not a nosy be. Any ideas?

Edit: He is still very young. Maybe 6-7 months if I was to guess

Actually you know it might be. In the pic it doesn't show the yellow on the lips, which is usually typical on the nosys. But i just looked at a pic i had of mine and it didn't show the yellow lips in that pic either, but you could see it in person. Does he have any yellow on the lips?

Here is a pic of the one i use to have.

The inside of his mouth is yellow. This guy is also extremely mean and will not be handled. Hissing and biting the whole time. This is his very upset colors.

lol. If you just got him, he's probably just scared. Or maybe he's just a @#$@%&. My w/c nosy be, the pic i showed you, was extremely mean. Just didn't like being captive i guess. Don't blame him, i'd be p.......d too.
Nosy bes have yellow on the outside of the lips. I can't believe it didn't show up in my pic, cause he did have them. And they would have been showing even at an early age. Do a google search on nosy be images and you'll see what i mean.

I take that back. It does show on my pic. It just looks more white than yellow. Probably because of the flash. I'm certainly not a photographer. On the outer corners of his mouth, where it looks white, is actually yellow. Very noticeable on a nosy.

im thinking you got a chameleon that in likelihood is part nosy be.

yellow lips sure are nosy be... but im thinking those oranges marking on his face when he fired up means nosy be is just a part of the puzzle.

my guess?

Nosy Be X Ambilobe

he could be 99% Nosy Be, but that 1% results in those markings...

unless your gonna use him as a breeder male and are thus financially worried about the true locale... its not that big of a deal then mate, hese still a beautiful chameleon

Well either way here is a nightime pic. Kinda crappy because it was shot through screen. I like the cham no matter what he is but he did come with a female so I would like to know what he is. If he would just stop biting we would be good. I have had him for 1.5 months.

I can tell you one thing for sure:
Without knowing the exact origin it's 100% impossible to give you a "positive I.D.". Furcifer pardalis is too variable in it's phenotype and everybody who knows how carefully the guys in Maddy work, can tell you the same

That is a nosy be. You can't know for sure if you do not know his exact origins. However, It clearly looks Nosy be to me. It is common for Nosy be panthers to have red on their face and neck. Look at Jim's from the Chameleon Company. GreaseBall has red all over his head, so does Kneecap and Jim is strict about keeping pure locales. Here is a link for you to see. http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=52&de=773668

I guess to truly know, you will have to be patient and wait 2 yrs. for all his colors to finally mature.

Edit: I just saw the night pics you posted. I may possibly be a mix, I noticed the orangish/reds on his sides and that is not typicaly of Nosy be, but more like Ambanja. I guess, only time will tell but in the first set of pics it looks totally nosy be. Sorry to be contradicting

You guys are crazy.....

its looks like a nosy be in my opinion.

I agree with Todd here-that looks like a Nosy or Nosy mix-when young they will show the dark striping. Chamlovers cham does not look like a Nosy at all-but Ambanja like.

Hi Julirs,

You know when i first got Cobalt, i was actually told he was a totally new morph. He was almost completely black, and i mean black, when i purchased him from a vendor. He was w/c so there was no way to tell. So i came on here and also did a "i need an identification" thread. Numerous breeders all agreed a very pretty nosy. He really shows the yellow lips in person.

Thanks for the help from everyone. I now feel more comfortable saying he is atleast part nosy lol. Like I said he is a good looking young cham and I will keep him either way. Thanks again!
