Need a Broward County Vet

So my 5 month old panther chameleon has a lower respiratory infection. He keeps his gular pouch out and periodically takes a deep open mouth breath for the past 3 days after a cold snap he was exposed to. My other 2 were exposed to the same conditions and didn't get sick but this guys having a rough week.

Anyway I live in south Florida and have a 4pm appointment with a Dr Ferber who claims to see reptiles but I don't want to get Willy Nilly antibiotic orders and blow out a 7" chameleons kidneys on a whim. He's not acutely dying but 3 days of hot showers and increased temps with an US humidifier aren't making a marked improvement, although he's not worse either.

Help please and thank you.

This vet in Weston has been seeing chameleons for years. Your chameleon may very well need an antibiotic. My chameleons have taken antibiotics before with no problems. If you are worried about his kidneys I recommend you ask for blood work to see how the kidneys are functioning before starting the antibiotic.

Waiting to be seen at Dr Ferber's. I'll update here with my experience and call Strauss if needed after this. The chameleon is 6ish months old I can't imagine accurate med dosing and effective blood draws at about 7-8" snout to tip of tail.

Huge (relatively) abscess on the roof of my boys mouth. He just lanced and drained it for culture. He doesn't think it's LRI at all but instead the labored breathing was from occlusion of the nasal airway. I hope he's right. I'm keeping up the US humidifier for a week or two anyway.
