My pothos smells like pee

Any ideas how to fix this or the reason why it smells? My cham will use the bathroom on the leaves sometimes but I always clean it off. He also shed and left little pieces of skin in the plants. Could these be making my pothos smell like pee?

no because their pee or urate does not smell like regular urine. It really shouldn't smell at all. If your plant smells try checking the soil. If it is not draining properly it might be causing it to smell but I don't know about having it smell like pee though.

I smelled the soil and it seemed fine. It wasn't real wet or anything either. It seems like it's more from the leaves. Could left over dead skin smell like that? It smells stronger when it gets wet, the only way I can think that may fix it is to let it bake in the sun for a day

Did you get your pothos from a nursuray that may have sprayed something (fertilizer, pesticide) on the leaves? something that when wet has a smell?

normally they do not smell, at least my nose detects nothing.
nor does cham poop or cham skin smell like urine.

I don't think peeing on it is going to be the answer haha :p

I got it from lowes and it was indoors at the store. I've left it outside for maybe a day or two when i first got it so stray cats could be a possibility I suppose.

I hate to have to get another cause its pretty big and doing well so far but i'll look into some more, that may be the only solution :(

Try giving it a real good washing and wipe down the leaves. You could also re-pot it into some fresh soil.

Is your plant pot sitting directly on floor of viv or in a pot holder that perhaps is holding stale water?

It is in a stand with a pot holder, the holder is usually dry and it gets changed out/cleaned about every 2 weeks.

Dang! All the good answers are taken already! :D
I would repot and wash the leaves really well. I have pothos all over the place, in Rambo's home, and inside our house and outside. None of it has ever had any odor at all! Take the plant out and smell around again. Maybe something else in the cage is doing that?
