hey guys, this is my first thread here! long time lurker too. i just got this panther at a reptile expo in New Hampshire last week, not exactly sure his breed so i was going to see what you had to say. he also looks to be around a year old but not sure if that is true either. also, his poops are always orange no matter how much water he drinks and wanted to ask if there was a possibility that parasites can cause this. i know he is captive bred and i chose him over the 2 more beautiful ones that were said to be wild caught. i was just seeing what input you guys may have on him. anyway, here are some pictures i took of him:

i also own a jackson and a veiled chameleon so i know what i am doing with these little guys. im regularly on this forum checking out the great info that all of you provide and is definitely my favorite site for this type of hobby. my other 2 chameleons appear to be in great health and have perfect BMs/urates. thank you!!!

I personally do not think he is a Sambava... I would think he looks more like an Ambilobe. He looks like he is going to be fun to watch his changes. I have had a few in the past that show red bars and then blue bars at different stages of their lives.

he's got a subcutaneous worm on his side there that needs to be removed. Probably more than one. But at least one big one is clearly visible in your photo.

Oh really? Wow thank you so much for telling me. I saw what you have observed and thought it was just an imperfection on his body. I had plans on taking him to a vet very soon and have already found 2 relatively close to me that i can choose from. Is this procedure very expensive? I am going to make sure all three are in tip top shape so this first bill is going to hit me hard, good thing i make above average money so i can give these guys the care that they require. What a bummer, i already have $325 invested in the panther.

Ambilobe. He does not have the classic "U" or "W" bar that the Sambavas have. Usually he second bar does not connect all the way down to the bottom of the stomach.

I got an appointment with a reptile specialist tomorrow after work to get him checked out. I hope everything is very easy for him, hes a very good boy.

update, my specialist seems to think that they are veins and not worms due to the fact that theyre in the same spot on each side and they look similar in pattern. he also subscribed panacur to try and deworm him just in case he has any intestinal parasites. he told me just in case to monitor him and if the areas move to a different location or get bigger hell think about looking into surgery for a sub q problem at that point. i also had him do a fecal test and i should know by friday how it came out. the appointment cost me $115 but it was worth it, other than the possibility of intestinal parasites he is in great health. now im going to have to bring the other 2 in at some point.

hes just started shedding today for the first time since i had him and wow he sheds fast!!!

I don't think I would not worm him for the inestinal parasites unless you find out he has them. You should be able to get the fecal done and then go from there. I mean why put him through all that goes with the medicine if you don't have to. jmo

yeah, ive already gave him 2 doses since before you posted, he only has one left. i just went by what the doctor prescribed. i see what you mean though. he didnt really struggle all that much to get his medicine, although i did feel really horrible giving it to him. i was extremely gentle and the medicine dose is smaller than a pea. i had someone else give it to him while i opened his mouth. i also made sure to feed him before giving it to him, he ate like a pig prior. im new to the whole vet scene and maybe am a little less of an expert at this point in time. the real reason for the panacur was due to his stool being orange and messy no matter how much water he drank. his feces were the correct brown pill like thing but the urates were always looking bad imo.
