I have a vail chameleon who is acting weird. It started a week ago his UV light not sure if it's UVA or UVB blew out. It was soon after that we noticed he was keeping his back right leg straight and had issues grabbing anything with it then it went to his other back leg then to his front legs. He does not move a whole lot and when he tries to reach for a branch his right front leg will go up over his eye and he will like grab around his eye he's been eating a little and I have been giving him water in a dropper as well as spraying him with a sprayer. We have found him several times on the bottom of the cage. And we have found him hanging from just his tail upside down he's been eating a lot of crickets and mealworms that we coat with his powdered vitamins. He has been dark in color a lot too. Please if you have any ideas please let me know what to try. Thank you

Hi there did you replace his UVB bulb? If you are using a screw in bulb that goes into a dome fixture you will need to upgrade asap to a T5 fixture with a 10.0 UVB bulb. Also avoid feeding mealworms as they can be really hard to digest and cause impaction.
If you could provide the information in the form below in as much detail as possible and as Dave said pictures of the chameleon and entire cage lights down that will be of great help.

Chameleon Info:

  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

This may be a silly question...maybe I missed it....you said the light burned out.....was that the ONLY light? And was it ever replaced?! This already sounds like MBD from improper lighting...but please fill out the help form @Beman provided so people here can help. I really hope it isnt too late for this chameleon.
