My female Lucy laid 41 eggs on 10/12/09

THis is her 3rd clutch total.

My veileds were my parents that decided to move to Kansas and I was put in charge of them. However I know how to spoil them and take great care of them. THe first two clutches I had no hand in so I was curious how soon until I breed her again?

I was going to give her a break for at least 3 months before I breed her with her man again.

What the exact time frame or suggested time frame before I can let them breed again?

Thanks
Ian

You do know that each clutch shortens their life time span? It is hard on them. I only bred my chameleon once and wont do it again, because the eggs are hard on her. I would suggest to not breed her again.

Most ethical breeders won't breed more than once a year, as it is really hard on their bodies. That being said, if you care about her, only breed her one or maybe two more times max if she lives that long.

Well I hope I don't fall under unethical. But here is what I do

Breed once , I let her lay the next two clutches. Second clutch is a retained clutch, Then Breed again a month or two after the second clutch. (When she has had time to recover) . This ensures that the third clutch will be fertile. I try to keep it to 3 clutches a year if I can, but I prefer they be as fertile as possible.

Just so everyone is clear. Mating does not = eggs . You chameleon will produce eggs even if you do not mate them. You may be able to control it with temp and food intake. But even Sandra can only get it down to 1 a year.

The short answer , wait at least a month - two months after she lays to mate her again.
