my custom cage

My cage is about a five foot tall cylinder shaped antique bird cage. I have covered the inside of it with this garden fencing mesh that is plastic and the holes are about a 1/2" big. not big enough for a cham to escape, but I know i will have to cup feed. The cage is obviously metal and the bottom has the easy slide out tray deal like most bird cages do. My question is what type of drainage system do i need? I just need something in the bottom to collect the water in then drain it out right? Like I could use a plant drain dish with some tubing attached that would drain into a jug or something underneath? I just dont know. Thanks! I would like to figure it out before I go to the reptile show in Richmond on Sunday as I am hoping to find my Cham there. Thanks!

You could even just put some small holes in the bottom of the cage and set it on some sort of drainage tray. There really is 100 different options ranging in complexity, cost, and aesthetic value.

Another question. i know the Habba Mister "sucks" to most everyone, but i think that is mainly because it doesnt have a good distance spray. What about its ability to spray just straight down? As my cage is basically 3 times as vertical as it is wide I do not need a long distance shooter. Thanks.

It's actually not really related to the distance it can/can't spray. The problem, is that it doesn't really "mist", it kind of spits instead. When misting, you want a fine/small particulate drop instead of big drops.

If you are going to get a power mister, stick with the mist king or promist. They are worth the extra money. Alternatively, if you have the time and discipline, just get one of those hand sprayers from the lawn and garden center at your local hardware store.

ok so with the mist king all you have to do is buy the pieces to make it point downwards instead of out right? and do you have to connect it to a water source ( like a gallon jug of water) in order for it not to suck all the water out too quickly? Thanks.

Just get the basic system and it comes with a nozzle that you can point in just about any direction you want, including straight down.

You do need a fresh water source like a bucket or milk jug. I would recommend at the very least, a 5 gallon bucket. With average misting, that should last you around 7-10 days. So, once a week fill up on the bucket, you can't get much easier than that.
