my veiled chameleon has stopped eating, is always brown, his grip is loose, his eyes were closed and now are sinking in, he isn't moving and is definitely dying. I took him to the vet but I live in Wyoming and we only have one vet here who's wasn't any help. they pretty sure just said make his cage at 90 degrees and keep him humid. he is continuing to go downhill it's been a week now. what can I do to help him?

First off, welcome and I’m so sorry your baby isnt doing well. I really do not want to be pessimistic, but it does not sound good. But let’s see if there is anything we can do. The wonderful people here will do all we can to help you and your guy out. Please copy and paste the form included below and fill it out with as much detail as possible. Also, if you could include pictures of your little one and the cage and lights, it would be super helpful.

I can tell you now, you may have been given some incorrect information. 90 is way to hot for your little guy and humidity should be low during the day.

Chameleon Info:

  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

  2. Photos can be very helpful.

Hello and welcome. I am so sorry to hear your boy isn’t doing well. Please fill out the husbandry as @Gloriawood suggested and we can do our best to help your little guy. I do need to say it’s worth trying but also if he needs vet care we can only do so much.
