So...there was a mushroom growing out of the tree in whomis cage this morning...not even the fun kind...hehe..little white dude, about three inches...i just repotted it maybe three weeks ago..

Well, that means you've got good moisture and have accomplished a naturalistic setting... I'd suggest removing it, lest Whomi decide to chomp on it. "Little white dude" doesn't quite allow me to identify it by description alone; if you want to post a good picture, I'll see if I can put a name on it.

here is the little white dude...hehe..sorry

He's a Coprinus (or would have been a decade ago, before they split the genus into several). I would bet that, given time, he will become a little black dude as his spores mature and he dissolves into ink. He's not dangerous, but liable to be messy. It's just possible he's Leucoprinus cepaestipes, which will have white spores instead of black; that one can be a gastrointestinal irritant. Take this one out and keep it around where Whomi can't get to it; if it develops the black, inky spores you can leave the next ones in if you want (if you don't mind ink; I would probably still remove them), if it stays whitish, don't trust it.
These fungi eat decaying organic matter. There may be some dead wood its feeding on, or something in the potting soil. Once they've eaten up whatever they're feeding on, they'll stop coming up.

Ok, i was afraid something was terribly wrong...
No; you can't really prevent mushrooms if they've got a food source (and inoculum in the form of spores that probably came in with the plant or the plant's substrate). I've had them in my pygmy terrarium, and I see them in our pet store's terraria on occasion; their appearance is not a sign of bad husbandry. They're unpredictable, too; the ones that came up with my pygmies were associated with a plant and soil that had been in there for eight months before the mushrooms decided to show themselves.

ok, I appreciate the time you took to explain it. Had me sweatin this morning. I am about to move my babies in their full cage, and it made me question my abilities! haha, that's a huge relief

haha, get woken up by whomi at 4am, him playing with glowsticks...he looks at me and goes "DUDE!! I CAN CHANGE COLORS!!! WATCH WATCH WATCH....WOOOOOAH" hehehe....i played that whole thing out in my mind, and am thoroughly amused...sorry guys...:D

I'm offering $5 paypalled to the first person who eats a mushroom grown from a chameleon's cage and videos it, posts it here and eats it. I'm sure others will pitch in, too.

I would do it, except I'm pretty sure its kinda dumb, unless you had a very reliable source to identify it as non poisonous. And, My cage hasn't produced any mushrooms!:mad:
