Mulberry bushes

I just got some russian mulberry bushes today. They are bushes/small trees that do make the fruits and are very cold tolerant. I wanted to get regular mulberry trees, but it gets very cold here in the winter. Like 30 below... So I saw this variety and read that it is cold hardy and figured I'd try it out. I got two of them and I will plant them and see how they do. If they overwinter ok, I will buy ten more to plant along the property line. I am hoping they grow fast too. That way I can raise silkworms as well as make pies and jams.

I've grown weeping mulberry trees in my yard for years now and I live further north than you. It's great to just walk outside and pick some for the silkies.

Well, the weeping mulberry trees cost 89 bucks each up here. Also, my wife doesn't like the weeping mulberry trees. I'll see how these turn out. Hopefully they thrive because I also want to use them as a privacy screen from the nieghbors.

My mother had one of the kind you have and it did well too...but it was tall and you'd need a ladder to reach the leaves. The fruit was good too. Mine don't fruit.

Where can you buy these? I have a sprout mulberry tree, it's taking forever to grow though. Can they be pruned to stay small? I'm looking for something that will do well parsonii enclosure through brumation.

James, I got them online from a place called Northwoods nursury. They were less than 6 bucks each. I believe it said they were 2-3 ft.

My mulbwrry trees always grow like weeds. Currently my 3 year old mulberry tree is around 5 feet, and my 5 year old... is... something that needs to be destroyed often so it doesn't touch the telephone wires XD currently only my older tree is fruiting and I have been bad about putting my collection tarp down these last two years but the birds definitely enjoy it and it's been helping both the younger songbirds around here during fledgling season and the bees love it's flowers.

I'm having a very hard time finding them here . I tried ordering but I keep getting note that they don't ship till nov . So I guess nov through April . It seems my silkies like the leafs much better then the show .

It's normal for them to prefer the leaves, it's their natural food source, but they will also go through A LOT more leaves the chow. Because they digest the leaves better and more wholly for some reason it fills them up less. I think because of whatever else is in the chow a bunch is left over because it takes them longer to digest. And not in a good way.

Yes they gut the leaves fast mine don't eat the vain of the leaf .

Mine will eat everything, but that's because I don't feed every day once they hit a certain age.

I got a bag from one of my Hubbys customers but their in Connecticut . Their ahead of us for leave falling . They did not have tons left . I have the chow but they definitely like the leaves . I can order them off eBay but it just seems crazy to buy leaves . It just seems so odd we don't have mulberrys here .

A lot of cities are actually taking them out... they think they are pest trees because they make such a mess but on private property they can't be touched. I think they are amazing trees because they offer so many things in so many ways to nature. I haven't had any leaf fall yet, but the leaves are certainly starting to die

There's an inn called the mulberry inn a few towns over . I rang them up asked if they indeed had mulberry trees . They thought I was a nut job Pranking them .
