Mouldy moss....ahhhhh!

Mold is always a potential problem with chameleon cages because of the high humidity. Do you have a drainage system setup underneath your tank? If I were you I would also get rid of the peat moss, it stinks and promotes mold growth.

I use peat moss and so do a good bit of other people, and it doesn't stink, and doesn't mold. I use a plain untreated potting soil for my plants and top them with peat moss, and i also have a full peat moss laying bin for her when she needs to lay in there for future use. no mold issues, but mold is caused by stagnant water be it a super high humidity, or the more likely culprit soggy moss. check the moss underneath, and see if its soggy if it is take it all out lay it on some screen, and let it dry in the sun for a few days, or go to wally world but a big thing of moss for like 7.86 and throw the old away (thats what i would do) make sure you sift it to get out any large debris like sticks ect. you just have to make sure the moss can dry out between mistings

Use rocks instead, just make sure they are large enough so that the chameleon cannot accidently ingest them. Peat moss can stink and can develop mold since it easily retains moisture.

rocks can mold, and grow algae too if water constant sits on them, or under them IE in a plant with rocks on the top you have a higher chance of mold under the rocks since it does evaporate. i though about using rocks myslef, but he kept trying to eat them, and hes going to get bigger as well so if i got the rocks too big i would loose feeders so i just use the moss. if it dries out you will so no issues same as rocks if the soil dries out under them you wont see issues either. its just going to be whats more visually stimulating to the person
