Neelix's urate are even more orange now :( I see him drink though, he sits under his dripper and drinks quite well. I really feel it's my fault cos his dripper hasn't been switched on til about lunch time every day. He is misted in the morning, 2 hours before his lights come on & I think it all dries up before he wakes. He is then misted again at midday, mid-afternoon & early evening.

I'm going to ensure his dripper is turned on in the morning & we are picking up a mister machine this afternoon, so his mistings will be more regular.

In the meantime, do I need to make other efforts to correct this, such as showering him?

I've attached a photo of his urates

You could try giving him a shower and see if he will drink more. How long does he go between poops? I ask because my Tommy would drink every time I misted AND use his dripper yet because he only 'went' every 10 days or so, his urates always had some part that looked like your pic. The longer the urate stays in their body, the more water is absorbed from it. The bit that leaves the body last is always whiter than the rest.

I'm not sure how often he poops but it's not every day & he hides it. He likes to make me do poo hunt every couple of days lol It's something worth considering, thanks :)

I'm holding off giving him a shower for the moment cos he doesn't like me as it is :(

Well, the silkworms have done the trick! He has sparkly white urates again. might have to cut back on them though cos he's urates are now a little runny, cannae win

Yay for silkies! Out of the four chams I have had, only Tommy ever produced hard urates. The others all produced rather more liquid, egg white consistency urates along with solid poop. I think Tommy had kidney problems due to his care before I got him.

ah, I get confused cos I'm sure some people have said runny urates is bad? Or maybe that's just runny poop?

I've still got at least 150 silkes to get through! I divided them into boxes of 30, they're never ending lol

I've now got 10 cocoons and 2 moths. Not sure whether I will get eggs or not. Popeye not keen on them. Leo's love them. Grand children learning some biologyLOL:)
