So I`ve got my chamaeleo gracilis for a month now, he's got enough space to move around, temperature is right, enough water and food too, but couple of days back, I`ve found him on the bottom of the cage all black and quite angry.
any ideas on what's going on?
thanks

-----THIS IS COPIED AND PASTED FROM THE HEALTH CLINIC STICKY----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

1. Lights?
2. Branches?
3. Foliage?
4. Fill in the questionnaire above...........you seem to need some help here........

this is his new enclosure, wich I just built recently, he used to be in a smaller aluminum frame enclosure. In wich the plant and branch you see in the picture took all of the space.

lightning, he has a UVA/UVB lamp
branches, I bought more today
I totally agree on the lack of plants, and I pefer natural plants over those plastic vines..

and thanks for your help in advance

Not as bad as I thought it could be then, :D
Is your uvb a tube or a coil?
Do you have correct temps and humidity?
He just moved home? Could be that simple? Getting used to a new place/ routine can annoy a cham, but they'll usually get over it if you give them some exciting new food......flies and spiders often work (use them rarely because crickets and locusts are a much better staple food)

hes been in that enclosure for around 2 weeks, you may wonder why no home improvement was done, well that was because I was out of action due to surgery wich had me laying in bed for a week. So I could only take care of the essentials, humidity , temp and food (crickets and wors), just don't tell my doctor I was walking arround :D

anyways he spend most of his time not in a bad mood, but then again he is my first cameleon so I had to ask hahaha

Long term stress is the bad kind of stress so if he has a problem with his setup you want to find out quick. It could be what we've discussed, but without all the info I don't want to be too reassuring........
You've come to the right place though, this forum has awesome expertise just lying around. I've never kept a Gracilis myself, so I'm not the best for you to get advice from.

My bad on the mood thing, what I meant is that I've only seen him like this a couple of times in the past two days. So as you said I'm trying to fix this as soon as possible:D

So it doesn't last long, and he goes back up to bask and seems ok afterwards? I don't think you need to worry too much yet then mate.

yeah he just sits in the bottom for a couple of minutes and then just wanders into his plant changing color imediately

ok... so I found him again at the bottom of his enclosure fully black.... as soon as I picked him up and placed him on top of the enclosure (where I have another plant, same as the one he has inside) he turned fully yellow and greem and seems waaay more relaxed.. can't leave him there unattended cus he may wander off haha
